CUBED STEAK WITH ONION GRAVY

Certainly! Here’s a recipe for cubed steak with onion gravy:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cubed steaks (about 4 ounces each)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Season the cubed steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Place the flour in a shallow dish, and dredge each cubed steak in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, add the cubed steaks to the skillet, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook the steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until browned. Transfer the cooked steaks to a plate and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are softened and starting to caramelize, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle a little more flour over the onions and garlic, stirring constantly, and cook for another 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
  7. Slowly pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly to incorporate the flour and prevent lumps from forming.
  8. Bring the gravy to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Add the dried thyme, if using, and return the cubed steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
  9. Cover the skillet and let the cubed steaks simmer in the gravy for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender and cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  10. Once the cubed steaks are cooked, taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
  11. Serve the cubed steaks with onion gravy spooned over the top. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
  12. Enjoy your delicious cubed steak with onion gravy, served with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dishes!
