Now, it seems Beyoncé might be giving it a go as well! The 42-year-old Beyoncé is releasing her new album soon, Cowboy Carter, which hints at her experimenting with country music this time around.
Beyoncé shared a track list for her new album. The 27 song titles have been revealed, and it includes a version of Jolene, Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit. And Dolly Parton took notice of it right away!
The 78-year-old country music legend encouraged her fans to check out Beyoncé’s new album. “Listen to my original ‘Jolene’ while you wait for @Beyonce’s COWBOY CARTER – Dolly P,” she tweeted. She paired this tweet with a picture of the tracklist posted and her own artwork for the original release of “Jolene.”
The singer also posted the same thing to her Instagram story, sharing Beyoncé’s tracklist there as well and attaching her own version of the song to the story.
A lot of fans are excited about the cover and how Beyoncé would be putting her spin on the classic. “Joleneeeeeeee I’m gonna cry!” one fan commented. “The legends 🫢 Dolly P and Bey🥹 laaawwwwddddd,” another user added.
In the comments of Queen Bey’s post, which has amassed more than 1 million likes, thousands of fans have shared their excitement over the nearly 30 songs releasing on Friday, with many honing in on the reference to one of Parton’s most notorious songs.
“This album is about to …baby she’s bout to cut Jolene UP,” another fan read.
Additionally, Parton is mentioned by name apart from Willie Nelson and Linda Martell. It is unclear right now if that means Beyoncé is going to feature these artists on the album or whether some of their music might have been sampled.
Parton had previously teased that “Jolene” might be covered earlier; when she spoke with Knox News, she said, “Well, I think she has! I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that.”
“I love her!” the country music singer gushed about Beyoncé. “She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer. We’ve kind of sent messages back and forth through the years. And she and her mother were like fans, and I was always touched that they were fans, and I always thought she was great.”
