Queen Camilla, 76, steps out amid royal turmoil in blue outfit that leaves the internet divided
It’s a pretty safe assumption that Queen Camilla has a great deal on her plate right now. Not only was her beloved King Charles diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, but the ongoing Kate Middleton debacle, coupled with the ever-present tension regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s shaky relationship with the Royal Family, has left The Firm in an almost unprecedented state of crisis.
In the thick of all, Camilla has cut a stoic figure of late. Once scorned by the British public, she weathered the storm to become one of the monarchy’s most crucial and respected figures.
Given all that is happening, it’s fair to argue that the 76-year-old finds herself the current lynchpin of the Royal Family, charged with guiding them through the current troubles while standing as a pillar of strength for her husband to lean on as he battles his health woes.
Recently Camilla served as point man for the royals at the annual Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration at Westminster Abbey, cutting a striking figure in an elegant blue outfit accented by a matching fascinator, black shoes, and black gloves.
Yet while a lot of the media focus was on Charles’ absence and the maelstrom of speculation as to the well being and whereabouts of Kate Middleton, internet users had plenty to say about Camilla’s choice of outfit at the aforementioned event.
Yes, it appears wardrobe dissection by the masses isn’t a thing solely reserved for celebrities attending events like the Oscars. Camilla’s blue-black ensemble became a talking point on the internet, with fans divided as to her look.
Somewhat incredibly, more than one person even pondered if the 76-year-old Queen (yes, 76) was pregnant!
“Is Camilla pregnant???” one commenter asked on Instagram.
“Is Camilla pregnant? And before anyone tries to be smart the oldest pregnant lady was 74 years old,” another added.
Others seemed desperate to vent their opinions that Queen Camilla is not in fact a queen, but rather a queen consort, since she married into the Royal Family.
“She is not “The” Queen!! Queen consort,” reads the top comment on the Instagram post in question.
This was echoed with other comments such as: “She’s not the queen,”, “Not my queen and where is Kate???” and “I didn’t see any Queen.”
Other comments were kinder towards Camilla, with fans offering support for her outfit.
“The Princess Royal looked amazing in the fabulous cost she was wearing,” one person wrote.
“I love seeing The Prince of Wales, Queen Camilla and the whole family 🙏🏾Lovely ❤” another added.
A third offered: “Queen Consort Camilla looks lovely in that coat and hat. I like William’s tie too. It must be really tough for both of them at the moment and I don’t think the press deserves any photos of them at the moment but thanks for sharing these. 👏“
Unsurprisingly, a generous portion of the comments field was consumed by people asking after Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales is reported to be recovering from the “planned abdominal procedure” she underwent in January, though the lack of updates from the Palace has created a vacuum in which outlandish conjecture and all manner of conspiracy theories have been given the necessary fuel to thrive.
The highly-publicized scandal regarding the image of Kate and her children for Mother’s Day in the UK threw the status-quo into further disarray, leaving many wondering if there’s not more to the Princess’ absence than perhaps meets the eye.
